Halloween Safety

halloween-safety.jpgThe excitement of children and adults at this time of year can sometimes make them not as careful as they would normally be. Simple common sense ideas can do a lot to stop tragedies from happening.

Follow these safety tips or visit Halloween Safety online.
  • Carry a flashlight.
  • Wear glow sticks or reflective tape on your costume.
  • Watch for traffic and be extra cautious when crossing streets. Make sure your whole party crosses the street together and that there are no stragglers.
  • Trick-or-treat with a group and stay with them! Adults should always accompany children.
  • Never go into a home and always make sure parents are visible to whoever answers the door.
  • Costumes should fit well and be soft and flexible so you won’t trip! Make sure you can see through face masks, or use cosmetics to create fun and scary faces.
  • Only give and accept pre-packaged candy. Have an adult examine candy before you eat it!
  • Teach children to never engage in mischievous activities such as throwing eggs, bothering animals, or smashing pumpkins. Report any such activity to the local police department.
