California Surf Lifesaving Association 2011 California’s Most Outstanding Junior Lifeguard of the Year
Pismo Beach Junior Lifeguard
100% Pure Awesome
Molliann Jones finished her 2nd year of junior lifeguards and was known by our entire group as “Made from 100% Pure Awesome.” Molliann is a bundle of smiles and laughs but when it comes to competition and learning open water lifesaving skills she can be straightforward and focused. She is well respected by her instructors and provided a pivotal role in helping out with our ‘C’ group when short staffed.
Molliann has discovered the ability to lead in a positive way. She displayed encouragement to her teammates and was able to not only push herself to improve throughout our 6-week program but she motivated others to push to improve.
Molliann is an accomplished paddle boarder. She was our representative for the CSLSA Regional Competition girls distance paddle and participates in our Annual Ken Harmount Pier-to-Pier Paddle (6.5 miles) for the Junior Lifeguard Division.
Outside of JG’s Molliann is a Junior at Arroyo Grande High School,
earning a 4.17 GPA. Her favorite class is AP Physics, as she states
“Its crazy fun.” Molliann’s favorite hobby is playing her guitar.
Molliann is a Varsity water polo player and on the AGHS swim team. She
is also a member of our local Surfrider Foundation Chapter. She has
been instrumental in establishing the Surfrider Foundation Club at
school where students get together to organize beach cleanups. Molliann
compassionately donates her time to the Oceano Community Center where
she is involved with the Children’s Exploration Program. A program,
which allows H.S. students to donate their time helping under privileged
children. She has also donated a great deal of time to the Children’s
Resource Network of the Central Coast. This organization receives and
distributes clothing to children.
Molliann has impacted the
Pismo Beach Junior Lifeguard program by simply out performing Josh
Burke, our 2010 California Junior Lifeguard of the Year winner. She did
this by her work ethic. She was always the first one in line and the
last one standing. She was very polite, considerate and kind. But what
stood out the most was her determination to place her team in front of
