1. How do I apply for a film permit?

1. Forms for a Film Permit Application are available on the City’s website at www.pismobeach.org .  You can submit your application by email to the Film Development office at Permits@pismobeach.org.   Applications for a film permit must be filed with the film development office a minimum of fourteen (14) days in advance of the date the film activity is to begin, except that those which include street closures, major stunts, or pyrotechnics must be filed a minimum of thirty (30) days in advance of the first day of filming.

2. How much will I pay for my film permit?

1. There is currently no fee to process an application for issuance of a film permit.  Fees associated with filming activity include:  a Business License fee; the cost for reserving or closing any portions of City owned or leased property; the cost for staffing an event / closure / reservation.

3. Can I reserve parking spaces for my filming crew?

4. I want to apply for a film permit at the Sand Dunes.

5. Do I need a film permit to film on private property?

A film permit is required to film on public property.  If filming on private property, we ask that you provide the City with a copy of your agreement with the private property owner.

6. Can I film at night?

Generally, filming is allowed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Night filming between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. must be approved in writing in advance by the Film Development Office.  

7. Can I use a drone?

It depends on your flight path.  Applications are reviewed and considered on an individual    basis.
