1. What should I do if I am experiencing sewer problems?

Although there are many reasons for a sewer malfunction, if you advise the City that you are experiencing problems, they will investigate and ascertain whether or not it is related to the sewer main. If it is not a malfunction on the part of the City, the property owner is responsible for any problems from the lateral to the main.

2. Where can I get sandbags?

The City of Pismo Beach provides a limited number of sandbags for our citizen’s flood control needs. They are available outside of the Corporation Yard located at 550 Frady Lane, off Pacific Coast Highway/Dolliver (next to the baseball fields). Sandbags are also available at most hardware and farm supply stores. Bring a shovel and be prepared to fill your own bags.

3. Who do I contact to get a pothole fixed?

Road areas that may be dangerous to pedestrians and vehicles should be reported immediately to the Streets Division at (805) 773-7053. A temporary repair will be made followed by a permanent repair as soon as possible.

4. Whom do I contact to report a problem with a street light?

PG&E does repairs to streetlights. You have three options available for reporting problems.
- Call the City at (805) 773-4656 (we will advise PG&E).
- Call PG&E toll free at (800) 743-5000
- Fill out a form online at PG & E

You will need to have the street address closest to the pole in addition to the pole number, which is located 7' above the bottom of the pole. Report Streetlight Problem to PG&E

5. Who do I contact after hours for a Water or Wastewater problem?

If a Water or Wastewater emergency occurs after regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 7:30 am -4:00 pm), contact police dispatch at (805) 773-2208 and report the problem. Standby personnel will be contacted by dispatch and respond to the emergency.

6. Where does our water come from?

Surface Water: Lopez Lake – The City is entitled to receive 896 acre feet per year, approximately 292 millon gallons of water.

State Water: The City is entitled to receive 1100 acre feet per year, approximately 358 million gallons.

Groundwater: Arroyo Grande Aquifer – The City is entitled to extract 700 acre feet per year, approximately 228 million gallons of water.

7. What kind of disinfectant is used in the City’s Drinking Water?

Chlorine and or ammonia are used as a disinfectant in the drinking water to maintain a disinfectant residual.

Note: If you own fish you need to remove ammonia & chlorine from the water in the aquarium before fish are put in it, it is recommended that you talk to your pet supply for the correct treatment of the water for your fish.

8. Where does the City’s responsibility end on a water service lateral?

The City’s responsibility for maintaining water service lines ends at the water meter, the customer is responsible for the line on the customer side of the meter.

9. Where does the City’s responsibility end on backflow devices?

The City’s responsibility for service laterals to backflow devices ends at the customer’s property line or before the first above ground isolation valve to the backflow device if it is in the City’s right of way.

10. Is Fluoride added to the City’s drinking water?

No fluoride is added to any of the City’s water supply, although there is some naturally accruing fluoride in the water, it is recommended that you see your Dentist for any supplemental fluoride treatment that may be needed for proper dental protection.

11. Does the City sample the drinking water?

The City samples the drinking water on a regular basis pursuant to California Department of Health Services and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencies requirements.

12. Where can a copy of the City’s Annual Consumer Confidence Report (C.C.R.) be found?

A copy of the C.C.R. can be obtained at City Hall in the Engineering Department; the C.C.R. has information in it about sampling of all sources of water and other pertinent information pertaining to the City’s water system for the full calendar year. The C.C.R. for each calendar year is mailed to every resident in the City by July 1st of each year.

13. Where does the City’s responsibility end on a sewer service lateral?

The City is responsible for the sewer main only. The customer is responsible for the sewer lateral from their building to the main.

14. Who is responsible for trimming trees?

In residential areas, trees and all plant material in parkways are the responsibility of the homeowners for whose residential property boundaries abut the parkway(s).
