James Way Beautification Project

The City Council has prioritized a resident-centered focus throughout the community for capital improvement projects. One of those projects includes improvements to the James Way corridor. In the Fall of 2021 staff held an online workshop to discuss amenity improvements and included a staff presentation and interactive poll. Discussion included amenities improvements, trash cans, art, tree wells, and other ideas. If you were unable to join, a recording of the meeting is available here. Please note that the recording may take several minutes to download due to the size of the file. The online poll will not work while viewing the recording.

City Council reviewed the public input and potential projects presented by staff in January 2022 and directed staff to enlist the help of a landscape architect to develop a project that would remove the concrete from between the fence line and back of sidewalk on the ocean side of the street, excavate/evaluate existing soil and amend and/or replace it with appropriate growing medium to provide suitable growing medium for the new plants. The project will span from Shamrock Lane (Hilton Garden Inn) to Crest Drive (Post Office) and is approximately 4,000 linear feet long. A before and after rendering of the project is shown below.

City Council awarded a design contract at the May 17, 2022 meeting to BEK Collective.
