Cancellation of Election and Appointment of Nominated Candidates

As of the close of the candidate nomination period on August 10, 2018, the number of Mayor and City Council candidates who had filed and qualified for the ballot in Pismo Beach did not exceed the number of offices to be elected.

In accordance with Elections Code §10229, on August 21, 2018, the City Council adopted Resolution R-2018-075 cancelling the November 2018 election of a Mayor and two Council Members. In lieu of holding the election, the one nominated candidate for Mayor and the two nominated candidates for City Council will be appointed to those offices.

The cancellation of this election is projected to save a significant amount of expense. Appointed candidates will be sworn in during December 2018 in the same manner as if the election had been held.

In all other respects, Pismo Beach voters will receive General Election voting materials as usual. Pismo Beach voters are encouraged to verify that their voter registrations are active (link), verify their polling places (link), and otherwise participate in the election as usual.
